Summer blackberries are not only delicious but also one of the most accessible wild fruits to forage. They grow almost everywhere and are packed with vitamins and antioxidants.
🌿 Leaves: dark green, serrated, usually in groups of 3–5.
🌸 Flowers: white to pale pink in late spring/summer.
🍇 Fruits: start green, turn red, and ripen to dark purple/black.
Best time: August – September.
Choose deep black, almost purple berries that come off easily.
Avoid red or firm berries – they’re not ripe yet.
Along woodland edges, hedges, ditches, and abandoned lots.
🌞 They love sun → berries ripen faster on sunny edges.
Pick at least 1 meter above ground (dogs & dirt).
Avoid bushes near busy roads (pollution).
Always wash before eating.
High in vitamin C, vitamin K, and antioxidants.
Support the immune system & digestion.
Leaves → can be used as a tea for mild diarrhea or sore throat.
Blackberry & Mint Iced Tea: Mash a handful of berries + fresh mint, pour over hot water, let steep & serve cold.
Fridge: 2–3 days.
Freezer: spread on a tray to freeze individually, then store in a bag.
