Acorn Coffee

A caffeine-free, nutty coffee alternative made from roasted acorns. A warming wild foraged drink with earthy flavor, perfect for autumn mornings.

Ingredients
  

  • 100 g acorns properly leached, dried, and peeled
  • 500 ml water
  • milk, cream, honey, or spices (cinnamon, vanilla) optional

Equipment

  • Oven or skillet
  • Grinder (coffee or spice grinder)
  • Saucepan or coffee maker
  • fine strainer

Method
 

  1. Preheat oven to 180°C (350°F).
  2. Roast prepared acorns on a baking tray for 15–20 minutes until dark brown and fragrant.
  3. Grind roasted acorns into coarse grounds.
  4. Add grounds to a saucepan with water. Bring to a boil, then simmer for 10 minutes.
  5. Strain into mugs and serve hot.
  6. Add milk, cream, or honey to taste.

Notes

💡 Tip: Darker roasting = stronger, more bitter flavor. Adjust to taste.
⚠️ Note: Always leach acorns properly before roasting to remove tannins.
