Method
- Check the identity and condition of the pine needles. Use only clean, fully dried Scots pine needles, with woody twigs and damaged material removed.
- Mix the salt and dried needles in a clean, dry bowl. Do not grind the needles into powder.
- Transfer the mixture to a fine-weave cotton bath bag and close securely. Check that the needle tips cannot readily poke through the fabric.
- Place the bag in the bath while running comfortably warm water, allowing the water to flow through it. Swirl the bag gently to help dissolve the salt. Remove it if the closure opens or needles escape.
- For a first use, keep the bath brief, around 5–10 minutes, and stop immediately if the preparation causes itching, stinging, coughing or discomfort. Do not rub the needle-filled bag over your skin.
- Remove the bag before draining the bath. Discard the used needles, rinse the tub and wash and dry the bag thoroughly before reuse.
Notes
External use only: This is a bath preparation, not a food or drink. Keep the mixture and used bathwater away from children and pets.
Adults only: This version is intended for adults. It has not been assessed for use in babies or children.
Plant identification: Use Scots pine (Pinus sylvestris), not unidentified evergreen foliage. Do not use treated Christmas-tree greenery or material contaminated with pesticides, road dirt or animal waste.
Fully dried needles: The preparation time assumes the needles are already dry. Do not store fresh or damp needles mixed with salt in a closed jar.
Essential oils: Do not add pine, cedar or other essential oils to this mixture. Salt does not make essential oils disperse evenly in bathwater.
Skin suitability: Avoid if you have a known pine or resin allergy, broken skin, an active rash or an eczema flare. A homemade botanical bath is not a treatment for a skin condition.
Sensitivity: A small-area trial cannot rule out a later reaction. If you are prone to skin reactions or fragrance-triggered breathing symptoms, plain bathwater is the more predictable choice.
Bath temperature: Use comfortably warm water rather than a hot bath. If you have been advised to limit bathing temperature or duration because of a medical condition or pregnancy, follow that advice.
Scent: Expect a subtle aroma. Do not add essential oil or large extra amounts of pine to make the fragrance stronger.
Salt: The salt is included as a bath ingredient. This recipe does not claim to detoxify the body or provide magnesium through the skin.
Storage: Preferably prepare immediately before use. If made ahead, keep the completely dry mixture sealed and dry, and assemble the sachet before bathing. No tested shelf life is assigned to this homemade blend.
After use: Do not save or reuse the wet plant material. Remove any escaped needles before draining and rinse the bath to remove residue.
