🌿 Plantain Salve

A soothing balm made by infusing plantain leaves in oil, then blending with beeswax. Traditionally used for insect bites, scrapes, and dry skin.

Ingredients
  

  • 1 handfull fresh plantain leaves washed, dried, chopped
  • 100 ml olive oil or other mild oil
  • 15 g beeswax grated or pellets
  • Optional: a few drops of lavender essential oil

Equipment

  • 1 Saucepan or double boiler
  • 1 Strainer or cheesecloth
  • 1 Heatproof bowl
  • 1 Small tins or jars

Method
 

  1. Place chopped plantain leaves in a clean jar and cover with olive oil. Infuse for 1–2 weeks, or heat gently in a double boiler for 20 minutes for a quicker method.
  2. Strain the infused oil through cheesecloth into a heatproof bowl.
  3. Add beeswax to the oil and melt gently over low heat, stirring until combined.
  4. Optional: add a few drops of lavender essential oil. Stir well.
  5. Pour the liquid salve into small tins or jars. Let cool and solidify.
  6. Store in a cool, dark place. Use within 6–12 months.

Notes

⚠️ Safety: For external use only. Always test a small patch of skin before wider application.
